A Clear Path from Interest to Participation

ONE RED is more than an incentive program. It is designed to help Nebraska farmers access information, technology, and funding that support better management decisions, stronger farm performance, and long-term success. Participants can receive a no-cost Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE), Water Use Efficiency (WUE), and a Carbon Intensity (CI) score in each field, explore equipment and technology opportunities, and identify practices that benefit both their operation and the environment.

ONE RED is designed to give farmers a straightforward path from initial interest to enrollment, with a selected ASP serving as the primary point of contact throughout the process.

Participation Pathway

Step 1:

Join the ONE RED Ag Data Bank

Step 2:

Work with an Approved Service Provider (ASP)

Step 3:

Receive Your Participation Incentive

Step 4:

Access Additional Grant Funding

Step 1: Join the ONE RED Ag Data Bank

  • Determine eligibility to join the ONE RED Ag Data Bank. Complete a short form with your contact information, county, and preferred Approved Service Provider.
  • Farmers with at least 80 cumulative acres of corn, soybeans, sorghum or canola located within these eligibility areas may qualify to participate in the ONE RED Ag Databank and Grants Program. Eligible areas include irrigated acres, NRD Phase II and higher management areas, and designated Wellhead and Source Water Protection Areas throughout Nebraska. Once Eligibility is established, additional acres outside these areas can also be enrolled by that same farmer. On the map below, use the scroll bar to visualize the ONE RED Ag eligibility areas. Areas highlighted blue on the right side of the map show the water quality management areas. Areas highlighted on the left side of the map show the irrigated acres with the water quality management areas.
  • Submit your interest through ONE RED Ag and select the Approved Service Provider (ASP) you would like to work with. Joining the interest list is not enrollment and does not guarantee funding. It only takes about 2 minutes to complete. Your ASP will be your primary point of contact for enrollment guidance, participation support, documentation assistance, and program updates.
  • Your ASP Contacts You – You will receive confirmation that your interest form was submitted. When the program is ready for enrollment, your selected ASP will contact you, explain program requirements, answer questions, and help you prepare the information needed for participation.
  • Enroll in the Ag Data Bank – When enrollment opens, eligible farmers will complete a ONE RED Ag Data Bank application for the fields they want included in the program, provide required forms, and sign a participation agreement. Your ASP will guide the enrollment and documentation process.
  • Submit Required Information for Participating Fields – Information includes crop type, acreage, yield, nutrient management, irrigation, and other field-management information required for the selected opportunity. See our FAQ on Eligibility and Timing for more details.

Step 2: Work with Your Approved Service Provider (ASP)

  • Your ASP serves as your primary point of contact throughout the program.

  • An ASP can help you:

    • Complete enrollment

    • Answer program questions

    • Understand documentation requirements

    • Identify and navigate incentives and grant opportunities that fit your operation

The ASP is there to help simplify participation and support you throughout the process.

Step 3: Receive Your Participation Incentive

  • Eligible farmers who enroll in the Ag Data Bank and meet program requirements will receive a participation incentive.

  • To receive payment, participants will need to:

    • Complete enrollment

    • Sign the participation agreement

    • Submit W-9 and ACH information

    • Provide required field and management information

Additional participation requirements may apply.

Step 4: Access Additional Grant Funding

  • After enrolling in the Ag Data Bank, if eligible farmers want a three year commitment they can explore additional incentive and grant opportunities for corn nitrogen management, soil health, and approved equipment or technology for nitrogen and water management. Requirements may include samples, receipts, and supporting documentation. Your ASP will explain the steps for each selected opportunity.

  • Depending on eligibility and available funding, opportunities may include:
    • Irrigation & Water Management
      • Flow meters
      • Center pivot upgrades
      • Water measurement equipment
      • Variable-rate irrigation
    • Precision Agriculture Technology
      • GPS guidance systems
      • Variable-rate technology

What to Prepare for Ag Data Bank Enrollment

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything ready today. Your ASP can help gather the information needed for enrollment.

  • ONE RED Ag Data Bank application
  • Combined W-9, ACH form and signed participation agreement
  • Field locations and acreage
  • Farmer and operator names
  • Prior-season yield information
  • Nitrogen amount, inhibitor use, credited nitrogen, and your plans for next season
  • Tillage method, applied water, cover crop use, and manure applications where applicable

Need help without reliable internet? Contact the program or visit a participating ASP. The engagement approach anticipates phone support, in-person assistance, tablets at events, and other options for farmers with limited connectivity.

What is Needed for a Grant Application

Grant opportunities will open after Ag Data Bank enrollment. Specific documentation requirements will depend on the funding opportunity being pursued.

  • ONE RED Grants Program application
  • Current or previous crop-season soil, water, and manure samples for each field enrolled in the Data Bank, that follow NRD requirements
  • If no NRD sampling standard applies, one composite sample per field at least 24 inches deep
  • Quotes, receipts, proof of purchase, and other documentation for reimbursement-based expenses

Important: Documentation such as quotes, invoices, receipts, proof of purchase, proof of installation, and other reimbursement records generally will not be required during initial grant application review. These materials are typically submitted after an approved purchase has been made, equipment has been installed, or a practice has been implemented, and before reimbursement can be processed.

ONE RED eligibility and applications are based on the fields, participating acres, crops, practices, equipment, or technology selected for the applicable opportunity.
